At Bethel, we believe our church is more than a building — it’s a place where faith, friendship, and service come to life. Over the past few years, the Building and Redesign Team has spent countless hours in prayer, planning, and collaboration to ensure that our campus reflects our mission and supports ministry for generations to come.
The Session and Building Team listened carefully to the needs of our congregation — through group sessions, surveys with Aspen, and open discussions. Every step has been taken with prayerful thought and a shared desire to see Bethel grow and serve well into the future.
The Story of Bethel’s Building Campaign
For more than 200 years, Bethel Presbyterian Church has been a place of worship, community, and growth. In recent years, we’ve asked how our buildings can continue to reflect our mission — to welcome, witness, and serve in Christ’s name.
Early Conversations
About three years ago, under the direction of Session, a team led by Roger Morris began studying the future of Bethel Haven. As they reviewed the space, it became clear that Bethel’s needs reached far beyond a single building. The conversation soon turned to how our entire campus could better support ministry, fellowship, and outreach.
A Fire That Sparked Reflection
Then, in October 2023, a fire in the Preschool area forced a tough decision: close the Preschool permanently or rebuild it to meet modern safety codes. That moment made it clear that we needed to look not only at one damaged space, but at the overall safety, functionality, and future of our church campus.
Forming the Building and Redesign Team
In response, Session formed the Building and Redesign Team, chaired by Joe Roy, to take a comprehensive look at Bethel’s facilities. Their mission was to identify both immediate needs and long-term opportunities for growth and community impact.
Each team member was chosen for their experience in building, finance, and their long-standing commitment to Bethel. Every one of them is part of our congregation and deeply invested in our future together.
Partnering with The Aspen Group
To help guide the process, Bethel partnered with The Aspen Group, a firm experienced in church design and planning.
On September 3, 2024, Aspen hosted a Group Discovery Workshop on our campus, and the entire church was invited to take part. We heard directly from the Aspen team and shared our own thoughts about what could make Bethel more welcoming, effective, and flexible for ministry.
That feedback became the foundation for a new master plan — one designed to help us serve more effectively in Christ’s name.
Developing a Master Plan
After reviewing Aspen’s recommendations, the Building Team refined the plan with Session and began exploring how to bring it to life through local architects and contractors. Every idea and estimate was measured against our ministry goals, financial stewardship, and long-term sustainability.
Forming the Campaign Team
Once the plans were drawn up, Bethel formed a Campaign Team to determine if our congregation could support the financial scope of the project. After careful evaluation, the final cost was determined to be $15 million for the complete design.
Once this amount was finalized in late August 2025, the Campaign Team launched a building campaign to support this vision.
With Gratitude
We are deeply grateful for the dedication of our Building and Redesign Team — for their faithful leadership, their many hours of service, and their steadfast commitment to God’s work through Bethel Presbyterian Church.
As we take this next step together, we do so with hearts full of gratitude and faith. This campaign is not just about bricks and beams — it’s about building a foundation for ministry that will bless current and future generations.
