Day 35

Monday April 14

27 The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint,
and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
28 Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent,
and discerning if they hold their tongues.

– Proverbs 17:27-28

Our world is very noisy and distracting. These verses invite us to pause and consider the power of our words and the strength found in silence.

Wisdom of Restraint: In today’s world, constant communication is the norm and we may feel pressured to speak quickly and frequently. However, true knowledge lies in knowing when to speak and when to hold back. Speaking with restraint demonstrates a deep understanding of the impact our words can have. The restraint we use allows us to actively listen, understand more deeply, encourage, bring clarity and respond with wisdom and compassion.

Calm of Understanding: When we are even tempered, we reflect God’s peace in us. Maintaining our composure allows us to reflect God’s love and respond with grace. A gentle answer can diffuse anger. Remaining calm and composed allows us to navigate difficult situations with grace and empathy, and can strengthen connections with others.

Power of Silence: Silence allows us to grow, reflect and gain clarity. The statement that even fools are thought wise when they hold their tongues illustrates the transformative power of silence. When we are quiet, we can hear God’s voice more clearly. We can listen more intently to God and those around us.

As we go through our day, let’s strive to embody the wisdom of these verses. Let’s practice using restraint and calm when we speak. Let’s work on our even-tempered spirit, responding with understanding and grace. Let’s embrace the power of silence, finding moments throughout our day to pause, reflect and connect with God’s presence in our lives.

Saturday April 05

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

– Ephesians 6:18-20
Friday April 04

40 “‘But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors—their unfaithfulness and their hostility toward me, 41 which made me hostile toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies—then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin, 42 I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.”

– Leviticus 26:40-42
Thursday April 03

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

– Jeremiah 29:11
